Facilities
Pickwell Manor offers endless opportunities for exploration and discovery without ever having to leave the grounds. For the children, it’s a chance to live like real Swallows and Amazons (although perhaps a little more civilised). We have been named the best alternative to Centre Parcs by The Guardian and our laundry room features in the Wall Street Journal's Year In Photos 2014. Well, it is a stunning view!
We have trail paths around the woodland with all sorts of things to spot, there are tree swings, our very own ‘Dragon tree’ to climb on, even Pickwell’s own Pirate Island in our woods, complete with a treasure chest full of all things pirate, to fire the imaginations of young (and old) guests alike.
There is also a
Packed games room
Tennis court
Basketball hoop
Croquet
Campfire
Surf and bike store – with beach things to borrow
Animal area – come and meet the pigs, goats, rabbits, guineapigs, ducks, and chickens
We like to encourage guests where possible to use their existing kit or borrow beach things from our surf store, and so hopefully help cut down on the purchase of cheap bodyboards and plastic that break easily and therefore get thrown away into landfill (see the Plastic Free North Devon campaign).
To this end, we have a supply of beach games, buckets, and spades, windbreaks, bodyboards, wetsuits, etc all in our surf store for you to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis. We just ask that you return them to the surf store in a clean condition at the end of your stay.
Throughout the summer holidays, we offer a weekly cream tea to our guests. And did we mention the beach? Well, it’s just a brisk walk through the fields or five minutes by car. Each apartment comes with a beach pass to the beautiful Putsborough Beach, so you can go as much as you want for free (just pick up your beach pass from Julia).
On a practical note, there is also a laundry room, wetsuit rinsing area, outdoor shower, and a store for your surfboards and bikes.
We wouldn’t say we’ve thought of everything - but we’ve certainly given it a good try.
